Brainstorming Is A Bitch

I just came out the shower. Whenever I'm in the shower I tend to think about my work. Why I do that is anybodies guess.

I was thinking what I should be doing with the social media section for my on-campus news paper, The CHIMES. I have to admit that I was pretty stumped for the past few days trying to come up with something to do with Facebook and Twitter. I had been thinking that there wasn't a lot to do with Twitter and Facebook. You post what you are doing, or eating, or...ew...and what not, then you post a picture of something extremely random and you're done. But then I remembered, there are apps! Twitter has a slew of sites available to turn it into something different than what it was designed for. Facebook has thousands of applications which can change the tides of my thoughts.

I want to give my staffers some kind of work. I don't want them just posting things and that being it. I want them to do some research and find ways to prove my old thoughts wrong. Maybe I'll get them to find apps every week, like an App of the Week or something where they look for new applications to improve students productivity or usefulness of Facebook and Twitter and write small 250 word articles explaining them.

I want to make things better and more fun for them and myself.

Social Networking sites: is it a mindless tool for people to “keep in touch” and comment on pictures or a great resource?

People use different ways to communicate with other people around the world. Some people send letters while others use telephones. The internet, as well, is a growing player in the world of social networking.

There a number of different sites people can use to stay connected with one another such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and FriendFeed. These sites have become more than just a way to talk with one’s friend about how their day was and the current gossip, they can also be used for education.

Education does not just have to deal with teachers talking non-stop or text books with 12 point font. Social Networking sites have become more purposeful by creating applications which can help students, from all ages, organize, learn and advance.
Applications have been used for many things, like quizzing others, wasting time and educating while making it fun and interactive. There are applications like Notely, an application on Facebook that allows students to schedule events, create lists for organizing tests, exams and even homework. Another application, Courses, allows users to post schedules for classes. It also allows students to create message boards where they can discuss issues and topics brought up in class, it even includes video chat.

Amanda Trujillo, an archeology major of the 2013 class of Potsdam University, believes that social networking sites are just a great way for her and friends to communicate with each other over the internet. Asia Hancock, an avid user of social networking sites, states that they are just used to “communicate, meet new people” and relieve people like herself from boredom.

People of all ages use social networking sites to keep in touch and stay connected with the world around them, but it is becoming something of a way to educate students, keep them organized and help them succeed. Social networking is not just a communicator, it is also an educator.

Yesterday, The Boy Genius Report posted a story that when I first read the post's title, I was a little skeptical.

They state that they have a "pretty reliable source" who told them about three features in Apple iTunes 9, which doesn't have a public release date at the moment.

One feature is Blu-ray support. This feature can be held potentially true because apple is apparently integrating Blu-ray into their future iMac line-up, as stated by Apple Insider.

The next feature is the implication of app organizing and arranging for the iPhone and iTouch.

The last, but not least, feature posted was an unknown mix between Twitter, Facebook and Last.Fm. Boy Genius states a good idea that the three can probably be used to post what one may be listening to at that moment.
